home in croatia

when my friend casey lived in italy, she visited the beaches of croatia and said they were stunning. the vaca spot had never even crossed my mind! then recently, i came across a posting about a painfully gorgeous house on the coast. i want to go to there.

martha's pie shop

the team at martha have put out another book, martha stewart's new pies and tarts. this past weekend, they opened up a pop-up shop to celebrate the release of the book and the recipes. it looked like a super cute event and the pies look perfect!

beautiful antique pie tins displayed for the event - love it!

bright bite gets a logo!

i'm so excited to have this adorable logo for bright bite! molly drew the zinnia
and designed the type -- i'm so in love with it :)

easy spinach pesto

justin and i made spinach pesto the other night -- incredibly easy to do and delicious.
we loosely followed this ina recipe and it turned out great.

we ended up only using spinach (a giant family-size tub), 9 (yes 9) cloves of garlic, walnuts, olive oil, parmesan cheese, salt + pepper. a squeeze of lemon would be good too.

whole wheat pasta with spinach pesto topped with sauteed
 mushrooms, chopped walnuts and parmesan

spring tulips

the store had a mega sale on daffodils and tulips so i bought several bunches to spruce up the place.
they make such a difference and give my house that added pop of life!

fun bicycle wedding

the real weddings section of martha stewart weddings, has a slide show of one of the cutest weddings i've seen recently. as the guests gathered outside the church after the ceremony, they were greeted with a line of cruiser bicycles! after picking out their bikes, they went to the decorating station and uniquly snazzed them up!
the parade of bicyclists followed the newlyweds to a picnic park lunch (!!), then to the botanical gardens for toasts and later in the evening, a reception with hors d'oeuvres and drinks. what a fun idea!
too j'adorable.

many more pictures of the event can be found here at martha stewart weddings.

frames wallpaper

i recently discovered the cool blog, eat.live.shop (man there are so many great ones out there--it's stressfull!) and came across this post about frame wallpaper. the paper has line drawn frames of varying shapes and sizes and it's up to you to fill in the empty frames!
such a cute idea for a play room--or how about to put on one wall in an office as an inspiration board?

{discovered on eat.live.shop. and can be purchased at graham & brown}

diy ottoman

what a rad idea, no?
the directions are really straightforward and sound amazingly simple. very little materials needed!

back from vacation: fés

han on the train to fes

this picture does not do the view justice! it was a gorgeous panoramic scene of the ancient medina of fes from high up, next to the remains of the merenid tombs
the doors to the king's palace in fes
an ancient fondouk. (history lesson! aka. caravanserai or funduq, basically a hostel for traveling traders. usually three story buildings: traders would sleep upstairs while trading between vendors and their livestock would be on the ground floor.) the place is now a leather co-op. see the man on the scales? a good fondouk had one of these, allowing the traveling vendors to weigh their goods and to make trades with others. 6 chickens for that lamb...looks about right...

see an old fondouk all snazzed up here
another in granada, spain. apparently the only existing fondouk on the iberian peninsula.

stalls and stalls of beautiful thread in the thread souk
the tanneries. you can see men working below in the vats of colors and dyed leather drying on rooftops.

back from vacation: marrakech

hannah and i got back to our respective homes from our almost 2 week vacation in madrid and morocco. it was fantastic! of course, it's never enough time and we want to go back as soon as possible. we've got about a million stories to share but the thought of typing them out exhausts me. looking back at my pictures, i'm so glad to have taken the ones we took but i'm disappointed that i didn't take more! to let myself off the hook a bit, it is difficult to snap photos with a giant camera while touring the crazy streets of a medieval medina.
i suppose i'll share photos in batches, so as not to overwhelm. impossible.

marrakech medina street

incredible wall and ceiling details in every direction. below are photos from the saadian tombs and the musée de marrakech (to be honest, we found the building far more interesting than the objects displayed).
(molly, i've got some photos to give you for inspiration)

a hike through the atlas mountains and to a series of waterfalls with hassan
waaaay above that same waterfall
hassan's village seen from above
a rug shop within the berber village. we came away with too much...ay!
djemaa el fna square, an overwhelming and incredible place:
fabulous cheap eats, fresh oj, snake charming, henna tatting, fantastic people watching.
always a cup of thé à la menthe
